As artificial intelligence continues to shape the future of education, McGraw Hill has introduced a new generative AI feature within its eBooks called AI Reader. This innovative tool is designed to promote active reading, improve comprehension, and provide personalized learning support for students in higher education.

What Is AI Reader?

AI Reader is built directly into McGraw Hill’s digital platforms such as Connect and GO. It allows students to highlight difficult text, terms, or concepts and receive immediate, simplified explanations generated from McGraw Hill’s trusted instructional content. Additionally, students can create customized quiz questions based on the content they’re studying and save all interactions—explanations and quiz items alike—to their personal notes for later review.

These features not only support better comprehension but also encourage independent study skills. By using AI Reader, students can engage more meaningfully with course material, especially in complex subject areas that often require additional explanation or reinforcement.

Why Tools Like This Matter

Recent research highlights the increasing challenges students face with attention and reading retention. A 2024 article by Dr. Gloria Mark, professor at the University of California, Irvine, reveals that the average attention span on digital screens has dropped from 2.5 minutes in 2004 to just 47 seconds in recent years.
